Shipping your Hard Disk Drives
Recover Hard Drive Data
Prior to actually touching the drive, it is highly recommended that you touch
the casing to discharge any residual static electricity. Please use caution when
removing your disk drive from the computer. Additional damage can be sustained through
careless de-installation.
-
End the bare drive only by removing all mounting brackets,
cables, and controllers cards that are connected to the drive.
1a. Please remove the drive from external boxes and use the same
cautions during the de-installation.
-
Once you have the bare drive wrap the unit in an anti-static bag or sheeting. If you
have no access to anti-static material then wrap several layer of aluminum foil directly
around the drive. This will minimize any static electricity that will generate during
shipping.
-
Place the wrapped drive in the manufacturers original corrugated
shipping container that should have a minimum of 2 inches of foam rubber surrounding the
entire drive. PLEASE refrain from using Styrofoam "peanuts" to package
your drive. Styrofoam easily shifts and compresses under any significant jarring
which results in possible damage that may cause further damage to the HDA (Hard Disk
Assembly).
-
Include a copy of any additional information you may find deemable such as targeted data
and any special requests or requirements.
-
Once the drive is ready for shipping write your RMA# on
several sides of the container to ensure that it is logged in correctly. Please
use a carrier that has tracking capabilities such as UPS, FedEx, DHL, Airborne, or RPS.
-
Once the drive is received it will immedietly be evaluated and a telephone call will be
placed to inform you of the originating failure and the data recovery costs. Certain times of the
year (date activated viruses) it may take up to 24 hrs to perform the evaluation due to
the increased data recovery shipments received, in these cases Disaster
Recovery Group will notify you that the drive has been
received and when you should expect the data recovery evaluation to be completed.
