Data Recovery

Recover Lost Data

The definition of data recovery is to extract accurate data from a failed, non-operating or malfunctioning storage device.  Storage devices for which recovery experts can extract data from include hard disk drives (RAID, internal and external hard drives), floppy diskettes, CD-Rom, DVD, tape, Flash USB and PCMCIA drives just to name a few.  There are many types of failures that occur which can not be handled by data recovery software or inexperienced professionals that do not come from a true recovery background.  Physical issues such as electrical failure, read / write head failure, motor failure, head crash, firmware corruption and physical damages in most cases will not be performed by anyone other than a data recovery specialist.

Many users who experience a failure and have a need for recovery will make several power-up attempts and some will venture to try data recovery themselves before seeking any professional guidance.  In almost all cases where the system has some access to the operating system Scandisk or some other auto repair utility will be performed and unfortunately many of those users unknowingly increase the difficulty or decrease the ability for a complete data recovery.  Our engineers state that “If software can recover your data, then you really did not need true data recovery services”.

Viruses Can Destroy Hard Drives

Virus infections in general would not constitute sending a storage device to a data recovery company.   However some malicious viral programs can cause substantial havoc and even incapacitate your file system.  In these cases MFT and Boot records will almost certainly be corrupted.  Software can only go so far as the program is only as good as the programmer.  From our own experiences we find Software to be useful but are not all knowing and powerful as stated with most literature associated with the product.  Human intervention that can patch and splice data back ensures higher recovery rates in almost all of these cases.

Hard Disk Drive Failures

Physical or hardware issues are substantially more difficult to recover than their software failed counterparts.  Hard disk drives are increasing in capacities with performance specifications being trumped every year.  Hardware revision changes during manufacturer production increase reliability, performance and data integrity.  Obtaining identical components in order to repair or replace the defective ones can be difficult at times.  For electrical failures simple board swaps unfortunately do not work anymore as the drives are custom written with electronic firmware that must match the chassis core.

Head failure, motor failure and a physical head crash pose a separate issue where the engineer will need to open the cavity in a Clean Room to replace or modify the component.  Clean rooms are a necessity for opening a hard disk drive as the head travels on an “air bearing” above the metallic substrate and any debris found within the chassis will have the head chatter which scars the media whereby causing physical damages to the surface.  Any physical crash yields 0% recovery in those locations as the substrate the holds the magnetic information or data has been removed from the platter.

We Have The Experience

Experience and knowledge are the core ingredients to a successful data recovery company.  Disaster Recovery Group engineers and staff have only one form of business and that is data recovery.  With experience in excess of 22 years our engineers have recovered data that has saved Billions of dollars in lost revenue, intellectual and personal property including general work.  Let Disaster Recovery Group work for you.
